Week 20: The Full Palette – Reflections on the Series

The studio overflows with canvases from the past weeks. Each one a layer: red splatters of flashbacks, watchful shadows of hypervigilance, compulsive loops of OCD, wild strokes of dysregulation, starved lines of eating disorder, smeared marks of trust issues, phantom aches of somatic pain, repeated lines of re-enactment, flawed views of self, numbing solvents of substance abuse, avoidance shadows of isolation, constant alert of arousal, unwanted intrusions, waves of despair in depression and GAD, impulsive fog of financial instability, abandoned canvases of productivity, permanent etches of self-harm, codependency traps in relationships, emerging colours of growth.

The series began with the first stroke, raw and bleeding from a digger’s home of verbal lashings, physical blows, neglect. Twenty weeks later, the interconnections show. Hypervigilance fuels paranoia, dysregulation feeds self-harm, substance abuse blurs eating cycles, depression deepens avoidance, trust issues echo negative self-view, re-enactment repeats the chaos.

Yet growth threads through. Mindfulness pauses, therapy guides, small acts build resilience. Empathy deepens, creativity flourishes, meaning emerges from the mess. The body, once a battlefield, learns rest. Relationships, once traps, find balance. The canvas holds it all.

The full palette is richer for the shadows. Not finished, but fuller. The story doesn’t end here. More strokes await.

Thank you for sharing the space. The brush is yours now.
